Mark S. Jacobs
Mark S. Jacobs is the senior and founding partner in the law firm of Jacobs, Schwalbe, & Petruzzelli, P.C., a law firm located in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Mr. Jacobs has been practicing workers' compensation law since graduating with honors from Rutgers University Law School in 1973. He also has a Master's Degree in labor law from Temple University.
The Jacobs, Schwalbe, & Petruzzelli, P.C., law firm is one of South Jersey's well-known law firms, emphasizing workers' compensation, Social Security Disability, negligence, and labor law. Mr. Jacobs is past chair of the Camden County Bar Association's Workers' Compensation Committee. He is also a member of the New Jersey and the American Bar Associations, as well as the Association of Trial Lawyers of America.
He has had an article published in the Commerce Clearing House Labor Law Journal on "Fair Representation and Binding Arbitration." He had been appointed to the panel of arbitrators of the American Arbitration Association. He is also admitted and qualified to practice law before the United States District Court of the District of New Jersey and before the Supreme Court of the United States of America.
Mr. Jacobs was past president of the Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey (1996-1998), which serves the needs of the Jewish community of Camden, Burlington, and Gloucester Counties, as well as the needs of Jews nationally and overseas. He serves a legal counsel for the United States Tennis Association Middle States Section (Juniors) and is a current member of the USTA Middle States Section Advisory Committee. He has been ranked by the New Jersey District in Men's Senior Tennis Singles and has coached the South Jersey Macabbi Tennis Team. He has been accepted in the National Registry of Who's Who in recognition of his exemplary service both to his community and to his profession.
Mr. Jacobs has been a member of the New Jersey Advisory Council on Safety and Health which has been successful in improving benefits through legislation for workers throughout the State of New Jersey.
Most recently, Mr. Jacobs, as a member of the Executive Committee for New Jersey State Workers' Compensation, sat on a panel of speakers at the New Jersey Bar Association annual convention in Atlantic City who discussed “The Future of the Intoxication Defense”.
Alan L. Schwalbe
Alan L. Schwalbe is a partner in the Cherry Hill law firm of Jacobs, Schwalbe & Petruzzelli, P.C. For the past 25 years, Mr. Schwalbe has limited his practice to workers' compensation, personal injury litigation and Social Security disability claims. He has represented Plaintiffs and Petitioners before the State Superior Court, in the Division of Workers' Compensation and in the Appellate Courts. Mr. Schwalbe is certified as a Worker's Compensation Law Attorney by the Supreme Court of the State of New Jersey and is the subject of a biography published in Who's Who in American Law. Mr. Schwalbe has lectured frequently on radio, television and before professional and civic groups on topics relating to workers' compensation and has written and published several articles on subjects relating to New Jersey Workers' Compensation law. He received his B.A. degree from Mary Washington College and his J.D. degree at Rutgers University School of Law.
Mr. Schwalbe has served as a Board Member, Officer and President of the Camden County Bar Association and as a Trustee of the Camden Regional Legal Services. He currently serves as a trustee of the Camden County Bar Foundation. Mr. Schwalbe is a past Co-Chair of the Workers' Compensation Committee and the Public Benefits Committee of the Camden County Bar Association. He is a member of the New Jersey State and American Bar Associations and the New Jersey Trial Lawyers Association.
On May 10, 2006 Mr. Schwalbe conducted a seminar entitled "Advanced Workers' Compensation in New Jersey held in Mt. Laurel. He also was a key speaker and co-chair at the ATLA-NJ Boardwalk Seminar in Atlantic City on April 28, 2006 where he lectured on "Discovery Practice in Workers' Compensation Court".
In April of 2007, Mr. Schwalbe was a key speaker at the Association of Trial Lawyers of America Boardwalk Seminar where he lectured on “Pre-Trial Motion Practice in the Workers' Compensation Court”.
Most recently, in July of 2008, Mr. Schwalbe was a key speaker at a Seminar in Cherry Hill entitled "Workers Compensation Update in New Jersey" where he lectured on Offsets and Liens, the Uninsured Employers Fund, Occupational
Claims and Issues relating to Discovery and Evidence.
Robert A. Petruzzelli, Esquire
Robert A. Petruzzelli, Esquire, is a partner in the firm of Jacobs, Schwalbe & Petruzzelli, P.C., in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Since 1984, he has focused his practice on New Jersey workers' compensation and representing Social Security Disability applicants in the Tri-State region.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Petruzzelli worked for the Social Security Administration in the Philadelphia Regional Office performing quality assessment reviews of Social Security programs and special studies. He has previously lectured on Social Security issues for a variety of audiences and has been an instructor on Social Security issues for the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education and the Camden County Bar Association.
He is a sustaining member of the National Organization of Social Security Claimants' Representatives (NOSSCR) and has been honored by the Camden County Office on Aging for his work as the chairman of the Camden County Bar Association Committee on the Elderly. Mr. Petruzzelli is admitted to practice before the Bars of the State of New Jersey, State of Pennsylvania, United States District Court, Third Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court of the United States. He has received his undergraduate degree from Rutgers University and his law degree from the Rutgers-Camden School of Law.
Mr. Petruzzelli was a key speaker at the ATLA-NJ Boardwalk Seminar held in Atlantic City on April 28, 2006 where his lecture was entitled "A Social Security Primer for the Compensation Practitioner - Potential Landmines in the Course of Representation"
Michael O'Brien
Mr. O'Brien focuses his practice on workers' compensation litigation and has extensive experience handling complex workers' compensation litigation and appeals. Prior to joining our firm, Mr. O'Brien served 25 years in the New Jersey Attorney General's Office where he was an Assistant Section Chief in the Tort Litigation Section with management responsibility over the Workers' Compensation Unit.
Mr. O'Brien received his B.A. from St. Joseph's College and his J.D. from Seton Hall School of Law.
He has lectured to the Camden County Bar Association, New Jersey State Bar Association, American Trial Lawyers Association, New Jersey Workers' Compensation Inns of Court and various County Bar Associations. Mr. O'Brien recently was a lecturer on March 21, 2006 before the Camden County Bar Association on Complex Issues in Workers' Compensation cases. In addition, he has been asked to speak at the New Jersey Workers' Compensation Bench Bar meetings as well as speaking on behalf of the Institute for Continuing Legal Education. Mr. O'Brien has numerous reported Appellate cases to his credit as well as reported New Jersey Supreme Court cases.
Most recently, in April of 2007, Mr. OBrien was a key speaker at the Association of Trial Lawyers of America Boardwalk Seminar where he lectured on "Pensions & Offsets as it Relates to Ordinary & Accidental Disability Pensions".
